Chow Time

Can I tell you how much I hate this whole "self feeding" thing. I know she has to learn but I really wish that I could delegate 100% of this duty to the wonderful teachers at daycare and call it a day. It's beyond messy and slooooow. Not that I am opposed to Sophie getting dirty. My laziness is opposed to cleaning up the mess.

This evening we had breakfast for dinner, which basically means that I desperately need to go grocery shopping. Reluctantly I handed the spoon over when Miss. Independent started crying and reaching for the spoon. Yogurt is of course runny so I think more of it landed on her rather than in her mouth! I think this summer I'll just roll her highchair out onto the deck and hose her off when she's finished eating. But I have to admit it was pretty cute watching her concentrate so hard.

This one is classic. She finally threw the spoon to the dog and decide that her hand was a better utensil.

Jonathan will be 22 months next week and he STILL eventually tosses the utensil and goes for his yogurt with hands only. The Yo Baby is still one of his favorites, too, which is nice since some meals it is all I can get him to eat!

Sophie looks so cute with the yogurt and tha polka-dot bib! Those pictures are priceless!

Love the last picture! Cameron will be 2 in June and STILL has a hard time scooping food - he can put it in his mouth, but getting it on the spoon is tricky for him.

Looks like Sophie is getting the hang of it, though. Love the Target(Tar-jay) bib!

That bib is just to cute. That must be some yummy yogurt! I bet that Oscar was glad she decided to go without a spoon so he got to lick it clean !!

My kids have resorted to picking the food up and putting it on the spoon sometimes! But they know that the hands are faster. I'm trying to encourage them to eat with their utensils more but like you, I'm lazy and I let them do what's fastest, which is the hands!

I just know my kids will be the ones in kindergarten still in diapers, Emma with a paci for naptime, and eating with their hands!

I hate self feeding too. Zack refused to wear a bib now, so I have to match the food to how nice of an outfit he is wearing.

These are adorable pictures! What a big girl!

Just out of curiosity, did you use your new lens for these?

Can't blame her- the hand does work better. Thank goodness we have lots of 2 year olds that still are a little fumbly with the spoons and forks. I was beginning to think mine had an issue. :) Very cute pics. (I too hated the self feeding thing- SO MESSY!!)

I wish I could tell you that utensil use gets better, but as I am sure you see from other comments, hands are still the best utensil and will be for a little while. Hailey started using a spoon at 10 months and then at around 17 months went on utensil strike. I was fedding her her yogurt and applesauce up until about a month ago. She now is great with a fork and spoon, but still makes a big ole mess most days just for fun :)
