The Great Pumpkin

I can't believe it's been an entire year since we've carved pumpkins. Last year Sophie literally gagged as we pulled out the pumpkin guts. This year, she dove right in and was beyond ticked that I wouldn't hand over the butcher knife. I know, mean of me right? I didn't get any pics of the finished products (i will later) but I must say that we made some good lookin' Jack-o-lanterns this year. We took a drill bit to one and poked holes all over it...it looks awesome lit up! Right now they are literally chilling in the  basement refrigerator, slathered in Vaseline until trick-or-treat night on Thursday. There's nothing worse than a mushed in Jack!

Sophie looks like such a big girl in these pictures. Come on, loosen up, give her the butcher knife :)

You guys are some serious carvers! I did a Mickey Mouse pattern before we left for vacation. Needless to say, it was a big pile of yuck when I came across it today. I didn't know of the vaseline/refrigerator trick--maybe next year!

I love the use of the power tools for pumpkin carving! That is too funny. I've never heard of the vaseline/refrigerator trick. -Amy

We have not attempted the real carving yet, just the stickers...looks fun. I have never seen anyone cut the bottom off the pumpkin or use vaseline...you must be some serious pumpkin carvers.

I remember seeing the drill bit pumpkins in a magazine and loving them. I can't wait to see the finished product. I love the picture of Sophie peeking in the bottom of the pumpkin. It is amazing to think how much she has changed her view on pumpkin carving in the last year.
